Things to Consider Before Buying an Email Finding Tool

Email-finding tools are handy because they springboard you from only knowing pieces of information, to giving you lists full of relevant data. In the case of searching for people to contact regarding your business, email-finding tools can take a domain or a person’s name and fill in the blanks from there.

Products like this aim to assist people or companies who have messages they want to deliver and need to know where to send them. Outreach and forming connections alter the entire landscape of your business, big or small. Doing this by yourself can take ages. An email-finding tool narrows down your ballpark in seconds.

They’re excellent for marketing, advertising, and building contacts with companies in your field. They are tools that are made to work for you. Before you invest in one, it’s best to take inventory of you and your business’ needs. From the number of people who need the tool to how many organizations you plan to contact using this method, it’s best to have a clear picture of where you stand in those terms.

While many email-finding tools operate on a similar premise, they are often aimed at slightly different audiences or focus on varying parts of the service. Some analyses of your own needs and investigation can help you identify what you need.

How does Hunter.io work and what are its pros & cons?

Hunter.io is an email-finding tool directed at businesses looking to find relevant, professional contacts. The application has been around for only five years, but within that time, it has garnered the attention of companies like Google, IBM, and Adobe.

While you may be sitting there thinking such a product sounds too large-scale for you, don’t worry. They have multiple tiers of services designed to suit your needs, being among the few email-finding tools that provide a degree of service for free.

Hunter.io focuses on improving outreach for B2B companies and maximizing profits from their leads database, no matter the size. They do not provide or verify personal emails but search the public web for professional addresses. For some this is a drawback, but it’s a part of Hunter.io’s dedication to data transparency and simplicity.

Pros

  • Tiered pricing (starting at free) that allows flexibility for the number of addresses or domain searches that you need per month
  • Data transparency assuring that their information is accurate and from the right locations
  • CRM integration with systems such as SalesForce, Pipedrive, and HubSpot
  • Ability to approach searches through domain names, individual people, or email addresses
  • Extension for Google Chrome and Add-On for Mozilla Firefox

Cons

  • Heavily Google-oriented
  • Lacks specificity for targeting audiences to the extent some companies require
  • Often populates search results with generic addresses such as support@website.com
  • Limited integration, especially with social media sites such as LinkedIn

Features & Benefits

Ready to learn more about Hunter.io and the tools it offers? Let’s take a look at the features and how they benefit you (and your business).

Domain Search

Hunter.io’s domain search operates by a user typing in a domain name in which they are interested. Then, Hunter.io returns the information in a simple, orderly list.

Being that this is the prime directive of the system, it goes without saying that without this function, it wouldn’t be an email finder at all. Hunter.io provides both verified addresses (presented with a green check-mark) and unverified addresses that still have a high confidence score. It also reveals email addresses that have low scores or are invalid.

The domain search is among the features that come with the free version of Hunter.io. Although it only allows 50 searches per month at this level, it doesn’t cost you search credit if the search returns no results.

All of the domain searches crawl public websites for their addresses. Depending on your plan, you’ll receive between 50 and 30,000 searches a month.

Email Finder

If you already have your hands on a person’s name and their company’s website, Hunter.io can get you their email. This feature also provides email verification, meaning Hunter.io sent an email to this person and confirmed that it’s an accurate address.

Hunter.io first searches its databases for already existing entries of verified email accounts. If this first search turns up null, the system pulls from other data available to provide the best guess.

Email Verifier

This feature is for when you have an email you want to confirm. Hunter.io checks the email address for deliverability based on several criteria.

They check if the email has a valid format, making sure it resembles what email addresses are supposed to look like. They also check if the address consists of “gibberish” or random combinations of numbers and letters.

Simple checks such as whether or not it’s just a temporary address or using a common webmail address such as Google are also among the criteria that they use to check if an email address is valid.

The email verifier also provides the public sources for the email address if any exist on the web. Otherwise, they check against their criteria for accuracy and present results based on that.

Bulk Tasks

If you need to handle large quantities of emails or people, Hunter.io provides a bulk task feature that accommodates this. Bulk tasks operate the same way the other searches do, allowing you to search for domains and emails and verify them.

For the domain search, all that’s needed is a list of domains or companies, and Hunter.io provides a large amount of relevant information. Email addresses, email type, first names, last names, and even a person’s department all show up as filterable material with correlating confidence scores.

Finding emails in bulk is an equally simple task. After uploading a list of names and corresponding domain names, Hunter.io provides a list of available emails as well as their verification status and score.

Verifying emails in bulk provides the same kind of scoring and validity check as the other search features. This is useful when you need to filter through a long list of email addresses to verify their deliverability and validity.

Campaigns

Simple and customizable campaigns allow you to send out large amounts of emails to people and businesses. You can fully customize and personalize these emails, as well as track their results and responses after you send them.

Campaigns can be scheduled to send out initial emails as well as follow-ups to keep recipients engaged.

In addition to scheduling and organizing these campaigns, Hunter.io has over one hundred cold email templates to use at your discretion. These templates give a broad range of options for approaching people while helping you understand better how to write a cold email yourself.

They also have a few frequently asked questions highlighting various points of writing cold emails, follow-up emails, and even subject lines.

API

Hunter.io provides API for businesses to integrate their tool into their own websites for convenient use. The API allows the main features of the site to be integrated elsewhere. To make this process simpler, Hunter.io gives thorough and well-written documentation.

The API runs on JSON and allows users to call the domain search, email finder, and email verifier features to work within their own website. Additionally, you can save and manage leads on potential contacts.

Other Features

Hunter.io has a full arsenal of add-ons, including its Chrome extension and Firefox add-on.

It can also be integrated into G-mail with its MailTracker, and you can use Google Sheets to formulate lists of data you want to import into the system for verification, searches, etc.

CRM integrations include SalesForce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, and Zoho. Using these applications enables you to sync your leads with each respective account. Also included is Zapier, which allows connection to more than a thousand applications, broadening your capabilities.

Apart from exceptional documentation for their API feature, Hunter.io presents considerable documentation for all of its features. It also takes the time to list several frequently asked questions for nearly every section. This is not a functional service, per se, but exemplifies consideration and care on the company’s end for its clients.

Another feature is TechLookup, which lets you search for specific technologies (such as WordPress or Shopify) and see what top websites use them.

Hunter.io reviews

After scouring the internet to pin down peoples’ responses to Hunter.io, the reviews were, on the whole, very favorable. The consensus seems to be that Hunter.io accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Many people are pleased with the application’s simple design and usability. In my searches, low ratings were rare. When they did materialize, many were vague or even unsubstantiated. Most legitimate qualms stemmed from a need for greater depth from the tool or a larger array of platforms with which Hunter.io can be integrated.

Users often note its simplicity, though they do not always criticize it. For businesses looking to sift through emails, domains, and verify this information, it often proved to be a good fit.

Alternatives

While Hunter.io is an exceptional tool, it may not be for everyone. Here are some Hunter.io alternatives that may better suit your needs.

Snov.io

Snov.io is another powerful email finding and verifying tool. It provides many of the same features as Hunter.io but falls on the somewhat cheaper side in terms of price. It’s more versatile with its data exports than Hunter.io and allows integration with LinkedIn and GitHub.

If Snov.io’s affordability and data exportation capabilities suit you better, click here to check out their website.

Prospect.io

Prospect.io provides email verification in a similar fashion to Hunter.io and Snov.io but focuses strongly on its automated sales task feature. Prospect.io allows users to set a large variety of conditions concerning each email campaign.

Automated sales tasks feature more heavily than email finding and verifying (though these are included), and if that’s something you need, check them out.

Find That Lead

Find That Lead differs from Hunter.io in that it allows LinkedIn integration, which some may find vital to their operations. As far as pricing goes, Hunter.io and Find That Lead beat each other out in certain aspects of what they provide in each pricing tier.

Find That Lead has no free option, but its entry-level tier allows more “search credits” per month than Hunter.io’s tier of the same price. However, Hunter.io gives full access to all of its premium features as soon as you start paying. Each pricing tier increases the number of searches you’re allowed per month, but other than that, you have full reign. Find That Lead builds on things like maximum user count and campaigns with each tier.

Find That Lead’s unique feature is the Prospector tool, which allows you to input job titles and locations to populate your lists. The Prospector tool alone makes Find That Lead worth a look; check out more details on their website.

What Next?

Having used Hunter.io extensively in my own business endeavors, I can confidently attest to its value as an email-finding tool.

The streamlined interface and versatile features have significantly expedited my outreach efforts.

One instance stands out: using Hunter.io’s domain search to gather key contacts for a B2B campaign resulted in a 30% increase in response rates.

The ability to personalize and track campaigns within the tool has proven invaluable.

Furthermore, Hunter.io’s CRM integration facilitated seamless management of leads across platforms.

Through my experience, I’ve found Hunter.io to be an indispensable asset for optimizing outreach strategies and fostering meaningful connections.
